Department of GIS, Cartography and Remote Sensing was founded on the 1st of July, 2007 in the Institute of Geography and Spatial Management of the Jagiellonian University. This new unit was built from two formerly independent units (GIS Laboratory and Department of Cartography and Remote Sensing).

The team of the Department of GIS, Cartography and Remote Sensing carries out research, education and dissemination activities related to various aspects of applying geographic information technology in geography and environmental research. An important field of educational activities is the use of e-learning in teaching GIScience and geography.
